Wogging with My Mama

Today was day 1 week 4 of my Turkey Trot 10K plan and it felt grrrreat (think Tony the Tiger there) to get out and mooove.

I tell you what, there are some huge differences between regular old running and pregnant running. Let’s start with the most obvious. Umm… I felt like Pamela Anderson on Baywatch. Is that obvious enough? If you don’t get that reference, let’s just say that my cups runneth over, to put it biblically. It’s definitely time to start looking for a heavy-duty sports bra. Suggestions welcome!

The second difference was that I could seriously feel my little man bouncing up and down on my bladder. Uncomfortable? Definitely. I’m not sure what to do about this problem, other than plan my wogs around public restrooms. I’ll probably be more careful about how much I drink before I lace up my Asics.

Wogging didn’t really improve how we looked, but it definitely left us feeling better!

Isn’t my mama so cute? She has never been into exercising (she has historically reserved a special vehemence for jogging and running), but somehow I used my silver tongue to talk her into doing a Couch 2 5K program. The biggest surprise? She actually likes it!

My road to running started with a woman named Suzy Cole blowing her whistle and ordering me to go run 3 miles, but if you are new to exercise, a couch to… whatever distance you want (I’m doing a Couch 2 10K right now!) program is an awesome option. If you have a smart phone you can choose from a lot of different apps that will tell you when to run and when to walk. It’s super handy.

Now back to wogging with my mama… One of my favorite things about coming to visit my family is my exercise sessions with my mom. I like thinking that there are three generations of Richardses out on the road. So presh.

Since there are only 3 days a week of the C210K program, I am doing weights on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. I have never loved doing weights. Ever. But I know that weights are really important to do to maintain muscle mass, so I’m gonna bite the bullet and live like a gym rat 3x per week.

I’ll let you know tomorrow what weights I am doing and why they are important, so stay tuned 🙂 In the meantime, I hope you have the time and energy to get out and sweat!
